Picked up my T7 Ocean 3 weeks ago and whilst the shelf under the main display has a phone symbol on it, it doesn't seem to do wireless charging. Online manual says its dependant on vehicle spec and only available in certain countries. Spec shouldn't be a problem as its an Ocean but does anyone have a working wireless phone charging shelf?

Hi there,
We were offered this as an option when we ordered our 4Motion T7 at extra cost of course

I cannot remember if I was offered this option when ordering from breeze on May 1st.
But if I was offered it, I’d have declined as it isn’t for me.
I’d rather plug in and use Apple carplay via usb C
TBH.

Andy at the Bristol van centre told me the spec kept changing but confirmed it does not have wireless charging in my van, which is the Ocean variant.

Mine doesn’t have it.
I prefer to plug it in as I have my wallet on the back, it’s a pain in my own car because I have to remember to pop the wallet off.
My only comment about the shelf is that I regularly forget I’ve left my phone in there.

I have just picked up my T7 beach (Ireland) and she has wireless charging. We have found it's quite slow compared to using the wire but handy to have.

TBH I would not worry about it. In car wireless charging is slow, temperamental on positioning and overheats your phone. We have on our Defender and it's more trouble than it's worth.

Agree, don’t use our 2024 defender wireless, plug in and use applecar play on the wire for me.
Wife uses Apple wireless and it’s okay for here. But she charges from the passenger tray charger C

Thanks for all the replies but after checking both the German and Republic of Ireland sales brochures, I can now see it is an option in those countries but not in the UK. Not understanding why its not an option in the UK and am going to see if I can get mine upgraded through VW (once battery issues sorted).

It could be a handy feature, but I've found wireless charging a bit hit and miss once you factor in the phone case. Spiggen cases generally work well with most wireless chargers, but not all.

Maybe to do with the EU Alcolock regulations.

* Alcohol interlocks are designed to prevent [drink-driving](https://www.google.com/search?client=ms-android-samsung-ss&cs=1&sca_esv=dbbcd87e5f308596&sxsrf=AE3TifMYyBNHCImxDPZt-_KHPQ1Wbq8T6A%3A1754033379589&q=drink-driving&sa=X&ved=2ahUKEwiBk-TDi-mOAxXMU0EAHV3LAVkQxccNegQIJRAB&mstk=AUtExfCL21Xc11NF1-nCrXzwn6o2uUthDQRLtfbXJVTxoLIVFG4C0yf4kP855vjuBAfZ5InO9WU3y5LloqynRKra351XngyA3ySzTooIVWXtWErbK9Z9suyomFaRnuWYwFgu1xds6adE23O6IuAg0X2K4QeUVO2bXTehx8qbPjeT2Ynr27E&csui=3) by immobilizing the vehicle if the driver's breath alcohol concentration (BAC) exceeds a certain threshold.
* **EU Legislation:**
  Regulation (EU) 2019/2144 mandates that new vehicles have the functionality to easily accommodate the installation of alcohol interlocks. This means manufacturers need to make provisions in the vehicle's design for easy installation.
* **Installation:**
  While the devices are primarily intended for [aftermarket installation](https://www.google.com/search?client=ms-android-samsung-ss&cs=1&sca_esv=dbbcd87e5f308596&sxsrf=AE3TifMYyBNHCImxDPZt-_KHPQ1Wbq8T6A%3A1754033379589&q=aftermarket+installation&sa=X&ved=2ahUKEwiBk-TDi-mOAxXMU0EAHV3LAVkQxccNegQIFhAB&mstk=AUtExfCL21Xc11NF1-nCrXzwn6o2uUthDQRLtfbXJVTxoLIVFG4C0yf4kP855vjuBAfZ5InO9WU3y5LloqynRKra351XngyA3ySzTooIVWXtWErbK9Z9suyomFaRnuWYwFgu1xds6adE23O6IuAg0X2K4QeUVO2bXTehx8qbPjeT2Ynr27E&csui=3) (meaning they are installed after the vehicle is manufactured), the EU regulation ensures that manufacturers provide the necessary information (an [installation document](https://www.google.com/search?client=ms-android-samsung-ss&cs=1&sca_esv=dbbcd87e5f308596&sxsrf=AE3TifMYyBNHCImxDPZt-_KHPQ1Wbq8T6A%3A1754033379589&q=installation+document&sa=X&ved=2ahUKEwiBk-TDi-mOAxXMU0EAHV3LAVkQxccNegQIFhAC&mstk=AUtExfCL21Xc11NF1-nCrXzwn6o2uUthDQRLtfbXJVTxoLIVFG4C0yf4kP855vjuBAfZ5InO9WU3y5LloqynRKra351XngyA3ySzTooIVWXtWErbK9Z9suyomFaRnuWYwFgu1xds6adE23O6IuAg0X2K4QeUVO2bXTehx8qbPjeT2Ynr27E&csui=3)) to enable technicians to install them correctly in different vehicle models.
* **Standards:**
  The [European Standard EN 50436 series](https://www.google.com/search?client=ms-android-samsung-ss&cs=1&sca_esv=dbbcd87e5f308596&sxsrf=AE3TifMYyBNHCImxDPZt-_KHPQ1Wbq8T6A%3A1754033379589&q=European+Standard+EN+50436+series&sa=X&ved=2ahUKEwiBk-TDi-mOAxXMU0EAHV3LAVkQxccNegQIIhAB&mstk=AUtExfCL21Xc11NF1-nCrXzwn6o2uUthDQRLtfbXJVTxoLIVFG4C0yf4kP855vjuBAfZ5InO9WU3y5LloqynRKra351XngyA3ySzTooIVWXtWErbK9Z9suyomFaRnuWYwFgu1xds6adE23O6IuAg0X2K4QeUVO2bXTehx8qbPjeT2Ynr27E&csui=3) outlines the technical requirements and testing methods for alcohol interlocks.
* **Benefits:**
  Alcohol interlocks can significantly enhance road safety by preventing alcohol-impaired driving and reducing accidents. Some countries offer them as an alternative to driving bans for convicted [drink-drivers](https://www.google.com/search?client=ms-android-samsung-ss&cs=1&sca_esv=dbbcd87e5f308596&sxsrf=AE3TifMYyBNHCImxDPZt-_KHPQ1Wbq8T6A%3A1754033379589&q=drink-drivers&sa=X&ved=2ahUKEwiBk-TDi-mOAxXMU0EAHV3LAVkQxccNegQIJhAB&mstk=AUtExfCL21Xc11NF1-nCrXzwn6o2uUthDQRLtfbXJVTxoLIVFG4C0yf4kP855vjuBAfZ5InO9WU3y5LloqynRKra351XngyA3ySzTooIVWXtWErbK9Z9suyomFaRnuWYwFgu1xds6adE23O6IuAg0X2K4QeUVO2bXTehx8qbPjeT2Ynr27E&csui=3).

Picked up our new T7 Ocean yesterday. We paid the extra cost to have wireless charging when the vehice was configured, and I realised just before we drove away that it wasn’t working! VW sales guy wasn’t really sure what the issue was. Sounds like it may not be resolvable in the UK - should find out in a day or two if it will be. It’s a bit crazy if a new very expensive van can’t have a working wireless charging mat!

Alpine make a prohibitively expensive unit that is powerful enough to fit under the plastic shelf and work through it. Ikea do a pad for a fiver that plugs in on a usb c. I have three Ikea ones in my motorhome

I think there is another thread running on the same topic....my T7 PHEV Ocean didn't have this function but I found one on Amazon that fits perfectly and works well

It's quite a neat low profile item and you can't really notice it in place

Question? Where is the phone holding pad / docking - on the dash or in an arm rest ?
If there is enough space in the plastics around it? - maybe look at another car/van that you could pinch / purchase to put in place under the T7 dock.
Being another VW car/van - eg the crafter - the bits could be retro fitted into a T7 if there was space ?????
Only a thought.
